Johannes (Hans) Brug is Director-General of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and professor of Health Behavior at the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University Medical Centre. Before his present position, he was dean of the medical faculty of the VU University in Amsterdam and of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Amsterdam.
Hans Brug obtained a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Epidemiology from Wageningen University & Research and a PhD in Health Sciences from Maastricht University. Among other tasks and responsibilities, Hans is the current chair of the Health Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the supervisory board of Utrechts Landschap. In the past, Hans chaired the permanent food committee, was a member of the presidium committee of the Netherlands Health Council and was president of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA).
